What It's Like to Intern at
IMAGINE AGENCY
When I first applied to the Marketing and Creative Intern position at IMAGINE Agencys, I didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was that it was my junior year of college, and I had no professional experience in my field of study which is marketing. However, after the first interview, I quickly realized this was a unique opportunity. The interview team seemed to really want to get to know me as a whole person, as more than just my resume. After a second interview, meeting the IMAGINE team, and exploring the office space, I was hooked. I couldn’t imagine—haha get it?—a more naturally fitting environment for me. None of the formal, corporate, intimidating things people warned me about the real-world work purgatory applied to this office.
Instead, I immediately felt the real connections between everyone in the office. The workplace is small, intimate, and collaborative. Within an hour of my first day, I had been introduced to the entire IMAGINE team and made to feel welcomed and included. Everyone took time to do more than just shake my hand, and the office is set up in a way that reflects and fosters this company culture. Overhead lights are a big no-no… mood lighting ONLY! The office is set up with individual spaces and open doors, where candles, music, and ongoing conversation create an easy, constant flow of collaboration. Despite the relaxed environment, it is always productive. Work gets done, and it gets done well. As an intern, I was expecting busy work, at least at first. However, I was surprised when I was assigned real meaningful work to support the IMAGINE team on my very first day!
Some of the coolest moments of my experience here were seeing my work actually go live with clients. I created a social media post for eBikes USA that was published publicly, as well as a blog that was officially posted to their website. I also designed the copy and visuals for an email blast sent to the West Metro Chamber of Commerce (10,000+ recipients!). Seeing these pieces out in the world made the work feel real, and throughout each step, my team at IMAGINE trusted and supported me so I could feel confident in the final product.
This is such an inspiring group of individuals who work to support each other professionally, while maintaining genuine jokes and friendship.
What surprised me the most was the team collaboration at IMAGINE. This is such an inspiring group of individuals who work to support each other professionally, while maintaining genuine jokes and friendship. The team also understands the importance of learning by doing. They were very supportive of my -lack of- experience in areas like Adobe suite and Meta ads. Instead of just avoiding giving me those types of tasks, they assigned me time to take skillshare courses, watch YouTube videos, conduct my own research, and eventually use those skills in client-facing, impactful work.
By doing so, I am leaving this internship with not only this experience, but a new set of critical skills I feel confident in like Adobe suite, writing copy for SEO and AIO, understanding paid ad platforms (Meta and Google) and a better understanding of branding and audience targeting.
Overall, this internship has completely changed my perspective of what agency work really looks like. I have learned just how many moving parts exist behind every piece of marketing an agency produces for a client. More than that, I’ve gained clarity about my own future. What I enjoy, what I’m good at, and where I want to grow. I came in unsure of what to expect, but I’m leaving with real skills, real experience, and a much clearer vision of where I’m headed next.
